Introduction to Geography (GEOG 1000) University of Connecticut

Course Description: This is an introductory course focusing on the principles, concepts, and methods of modern geography. Geography is a discipline that focuses on the interactions of the biosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere at the surface of the Earth. Geographers specialize in and are particularly interested in the locational and spatial aspects of the above interactions. By understanding the issues associated with the “where” we can help answer the questions associated with the “why.” This course will focus on key areas of geographic research in the physical geography, human geography, human-environment relations, and locational analysis at a variety of geographic scales. It is very important to understand how spatial processes lead to distinctive patterns on the Earth’s surface. My hope is that I can help you all see the world through a new lens, the geographic lens.
